This $326M project is the first design build highway project for Caltrans in the Inland Empire. As a partnership between Caltrans and San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), both agencies have worked collaboratively through the project approval and environmental document phase. Caltrans lead construction management oversight during the final design and construction phases. SBCTA continued to be an integral partner in the project as it played a key role in securing funding sources.
G3 managed and performed contractor quality control and were responsible for performing materials testing and inspection on Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt (RHMA), as well as, laydown inspection, monitored compaction, and coring the HMA for densities during each day of production. In addition, G3 also performed laboratory testing which included theoretical max densities, core densities, and testing for air voids.
